Harriman Road Stock Cars

S-40-4 This early class of stock car owned by Harriman Road companies was designed in 1912. During 1912 the first cars were built by Pullman for the SP and soon after orders from other Harriman Road companies followed. Over the next 3 years a total of 906 cars were built. In 1915 the plans were modified and an additional 972 cars were constructed under the classification S-40-5. Other 36' stock cars were built in later years.Builders of these early cars included Pullman, Ralston and Standard Steel Car.

The following railroads purchased these cars new. Texas & New Orleans, Pacific Electric, SPdeM, Houston East & West Texas, Galveston Harrisonburg & San Antonio, Northwestern Pacific,and SP.
