Built in 1922-23 The class O-17 cars were built by the Atlantic Coast Line and were dedicated to the Alantic Coast Despatch.

Re-painted with the ACL herald in 1950 several of these cars were re-built and remained in service into the mid 60's.

The Charleston & Western Carolina was a subsiderary of the ACL.Box cars of the same basic design less the ventilation features were owned by the C&WC RR.
